Troms take feedlot case to Court of Appeals

A lawsuit over Dodge County’s approval of a feedlot in Westfield Township is headed to the courtroom once again.

Lowell and Evelyn Trom have asked the Minnesota Court of Appeals to review their case against Dodge County, the Dodge County Board of Commissioners and Masching Swine Farms. The appeal was filed today, July 8, by their attorney James P. Peters.

District Judge Joseph F. Chase ruled against the Troms in a judgment that was entered on May 13, 2016.

In their suit the Troms charged that the county failed to properly address the environmental concerns when the Masching’s applied for a conditional use permit to build a 2,400 head feedlot on land near the Troms’ farm.

They also took issue with the process used to approve the feedlot.
