Sewage Spill in Steele County
A sewage spill at Beaver Lake near Ellendale has prompted the closure of the popular recreational spot.
On Saturday, the Steele County Sheriff’s Office responded to a sewage spill within the lake. Initially, it had been believed to have been a septic system fail.
Both the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency are attempting to contain the incident. As of Sunday morning, their efforts have been unsuccessful and the spill is believed to be more than 5,000 gallons.
Homeowners around the lake have been notified and pets and people should not enter the water. The park is currently closed and posted with signs and barricades. Steele County authorities say it will be closed until further notice.
More details will be released as they become available.
