BREAKING NEWS: Man dies in Freeborn County pasture

A man attending a social gathering in a pasture in rural Freeborn County has died after being hit by a vehicle.

Freeborn County Sheriff Kurt Freitag identified the victim as Alex Dylan Tapp, 30, of Austin. The incident happened Saturday around 9:10 p.m. at 23595 890th Avenue just north of Oakland.

Freitag said a 2000 Chevy Suburban struck Tapp while in the pasture behind the residence. Witnesses began CPR on Tapp until sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene. CPR was continued for some time before Tapp was declared dead at the scene. He was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation into what led up to the incident.

In addition to Freeborn County, the Mower County Sheriff’s Office, Austin Police, Gold Cross Ambulance, Minnesota State Patrol and Hollandale First Responders assisted at the scene.

Freitag said more information will be released as it becomes available.
