Wildcats extend winning streak to four games
The Dodge County boys hockey extended its winning streak to four games last week with the latest installments coming against La Crescent and Windom Area. The winning streak is the Wildcats’ longest winning streak of the season and is part of a stretch of six wins in the past eight games.
The Wildcats week started with senior night at Dodge County Ice Arena as La Crescent came to town. Dodge County wasn’t very welcoming to the visiting Lancers as Alex Nelson took advantage of a shorthanded breakaway and scored on a feed from Cade Spreiter for his sixth goal of the season for an early lead.
In the second period the Lancers would climb back into it with an Alex Boudreau goal, but the Wildcats would answer late with Adam Colvin’s seventh goal of the season from Nicholas Retzer and Keegan Kuhn to retake the lead.
From there, the Wildcats piled on as Peyton Johnson, Alex Haala and Nelson would all score in the third period for the final 5-1 victory.
The momentum didn’t continue right away in a Saturday afternoon matinee with Windom Area as the Eagles scored a pair of goals in the first period for an early lead. Once again, the Wildcats would respond in the second with Johnson scoring his eighth goal of the season from Haala at 1:47 and Logan Gauthier scoring his third goal of the season from Chandler D’Incau at 6:09.
With the game tied, D’Incau would get on the scoresheet with his second goal of the season to give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead into the second intermission. Nelson would score his third goal of the week and eighth of the season in the third period as insurance to give Dodge County a 4-2 victory.
The Wildcats now own a record of 11-10 and hosted Austin on Monday night. They’ll head up to North Branch on Friday night before a make-up game with Faribault on Saturday evening. Dodge County will wrap up its regular season on February 13 at Waseca.
