Powerlifting sets their goals in Warm Up Meet
The Kasson-Mantorville powerlifting team competed in their first competition meet of the year as they held their annual K-M Warm-Up meet on November 11. This year’s team has 26 lifters as they all set their initial benchmarks during this competition.
“This was just a warm up meet for us,” K-M powerlifting coach Cori Ronnenberg confirmed. “The beginning lifters got to see how a real high school meet is run and the returners got to see where they need to improve and set goals for their next meet.”
Leading the way for the Male Lifter of the Meet Award was junior Jackson Serwa. Competing in the 275 pound division, Serwa squatted 500 pounds, benched 200 pounds and deadlifted 450 pounds for a three-lift total of 1,150 pounds. Such was a solid start to the year after showing improvement throughout the schedule a year ago.
Also lifting for the KoMets was 132 pound junior Alex McElmury (260-pound squat, 125-pound bench, 340-pound deadlift, 725-pound total), 181-pound senior Brendan Marquez (320-175-375-870), 181-pound sophomore Trenton Kruger (405-150-390-945), 220-pound senior Collin Johnson (420-150-430-1,035), 242-pound senior Noah Iverson (400-135-480-1,015) and 275-pound sophomore Luke Selijeseth (300-200-450-950).
On the girls side, Maddy Bendickson won the Best Female Lifter of the Meet Award competing in the 114-pound class. The sophomore squatted 170 pounds, benched 85 pounds and deadlifted 210 pounds for a total of 465 pounds. 148-pound sophomore Olivia Fratianni (165-85-205-455) and 123-pound freshman Jisela Gonzalez (135-75-215-425) also had strong meets to open the season.
The next meet for the powerlifting team will be the Adam-Friendship meet in Wisconsin on December 3.
