KoMets send nine to state individual tournament
A week ago, the Kasson-Mantorville wrestling team punched their ticket to the state tournament. With their victory over Albert Lea in the section championship, there was already going to be some KoMet pride in attendance when the team duals take place on Thursday morning.
However, this team has proven that they aren’t there just to take one trophy. They want to take the whole table with them.
With that intensity, it wasn’t a surprise to see nine KoMets qualify for the individual state tournament. Throughout the individual Section 1AA meet at the Mayo Civic Center last weekend, K-M’s dominance was on full display as there was plenty of KoMet blue throughout the meet.
K-M had a representative in all 14 weight classes in the tournament and 13 of them made it to the section finals in their respective class. From there, the nine KoMets that qualified went to the finals with Jared Johnson (113 pounds), Brady Berge (160 pounds), Andy Bigelow (170 pounds), Aaron Berge (182 pounds), Noah Ryan (195 pounds) each winning section championships.
While the section champions won with pure dominance, the KoMets also had plenty of drama as some of their other wrestlers looked to punch a ticket to state. The match of the night in this regard came when Isaac Haman took on Ben Adamson of Byron.
