KoMets earn rematch with Stewartville

The Kasson-Mantorville and Stewartville volleyball teams have routinely butted heads late in the season. For the third time in the past five years, the KoMets and Tigers will renew their acquaintances on Thursday night when they play for the Section 1AA West championship at the Mayo Civic Center.“K-M has good rivalries with a few teams,” K-M head coach Adam VanOort said. “I would say that Stewartville is one of them.”The KoMets earned the right to face Stewartville by picking up victories against Zumbrota-Mazeppa on Thursday night and Cannon Falls on Saturday afternoon. The Z-M game took place at the K-M South Gym and the KoMets wasted no time in making their way to Saturday’s subsection semi-final. After taking the first game by a score of 25-14, they cruised to a 25-12 win in the second and finished the Cougars off with a 25-17 score in the third.Senior Lilly Braun had 23 assists for the KoMets in the victory and freshman Bailey Berge helped out with nine digs. K-M also had stellar play at the net as senior Sam McMillin had nine kills with four blocks and freshman Peyton Suess had six kills of her own.
