K-M volleyball breaks records, earn state honors
The Kasson-Mantorville volleyball team may have had a disappointing end to the season with a loss to Stewartville, but that didn’t stop the team from racking up accolades.
Lilly Braun lead the way for the KoMets as she made her way into the K-M record books. Her ability to set up her teammates was a key throughout her career and the senior’s work paid off by setting the All-Time single season assist record with 1,024. She also obliterated the all-time career assist record of 1,840 assists with 2,626. Braun’s efforts were capped off by earning Class AA first-team All-State honors.
“Lilly was a critical part to our success over the past three years,” K-M head coach Adam VanOort stated. “She worked very hard and put herself to be our starting setter as a sophomore and was blessed to play with some strong hitters.”
“It means a lot to me,” Braun said of the selection. “I’ve worked so hard and set so many goals for myself. It feels good achieving everything I wanted to accomplish.”
Samantha McMillin also re-wrote the record books as the senior set the all-time career block record. With 211 blocks, she passed the old record of 205, which was set in 1997.
“Samantha was our most consistent offensive player and lead the team in blocks.” VanOort explained. “She always got the big kills when we needed them and was able to stop the other team with her blocks. I was very pleased with her season.”
“It’s really cool to be part of K-M’s history.” McMillin added. “It just shows that hard work pays off.”
