A New Year’s wish for readers
There was no shortage of news- both good and bad- in Dodge County and across the region during 2017, and the stories and photos od decisions and events filled the pages of the DCI each week. In this edition of the DCI, we are recapping 2017 in a variety of ways. On the front page, we have the Top 10 news stories. And on the inside pages, we have a more detailed look at the year-in-review, chronicling items week by week and including photos of various news events.
Our sports department compiled a special list of all the top sports highlights from 2017. We also remembered loved ones who have died throughout the year.
If you missed what’s going on around the area this past year, this week’s edition will give you a glimpse of what happened in 2017.
We hope you enjoy our attempt at looking back at the past 12 months.
It’s always a fun project for me to look through all the pages we published during the year and pull out the highlights.
As we look back at 2017, we begin to turn our focus ahead to 2018.
The economic conditions of the past few years have been troubling and trying for most. Political upheaval and social unrest have spread to many corners of the globe and financial worries have contributed to the struggles of many individuals.
Locally, food shelf usage is on the rise, and free and reduced school lunch programs have seen more families added to the rolls.
I hope our readers will take a moment to remember the good things that may have happened to them in 2017 and be thankful we live in such wonderful communities as we have around Dodge County.
Looking ahead to 2018, the challenge will be on us to continue the path forward toward making our communities, and the world, an even better place to live.
I hope that you will be touched by the kindness of others, and in return, touch someone else with an act of your own kindness.
And most of all, dear readers, I wish 2018 will bring you happiness and joy for the whole year as you go in hot pursuit of living life to the fullest.
