New beginnings during birthday week
Last week was a big week. I took over at the Dodge County Independent as News Editor and I celebrated my 46th birthday.
In coming on as the News Editor, I toured Kasson and surrounding towns to get a lay of the land and meet the people who I’ll be working with to get important news out to our readers. Interviewing and meeting people is one of the best parts of my job.
Then came Friday, when I hurried to Byron to interview a goat milk soapmaker (see this edition of the DCI to read more about her) and forgot it was my birthday until my daughter Margaret texted me, “Happy birthday!” Other relatives and friends sent me birthday messages throughout the day, including my son Henry who wished me well later in the day. Better late than never!
By that time, I was on my way to my birthday party. My twin brother Robert hosted me, our parents, Margaret and Rob’s lovely daughters Abigail and Olivia for a delicious dinner of steak, grilled asparagus and double-oven baked potatoes. That was followed up by two kinds of pie – pumpkin and French Silk – for dessert, both baked that day by my mom.
It was my mom, in fact, who reminded me I was turning 46 and not 45 as I thought. Who forgets their age?! Me! You know you’re getting old when …
After dinner and a round of the card game Hearts, Margaret and I made our way home to Rochester with full stomachs and happy hearts. Not a bad way to turn 46.
Please send your story ideas and news to me at email@example.com. I’m eager to meet you!
