Meditation: What a Trip

"The world is too much with us.” -William Wordsworth

My mind on hyperdrive (about 99 percent of the time):

Twins baseball Trump corruption nuclear war hot weather’s killin’ me how am I possibly going to get all this done can’t no way no how totally overwhelmed where to eat tonight maybe Chinese what’s going on this weekend I can’t believe so-and- so said that will my car break down in the middle of nowhere jeez these people drive fast wow this lady drives slow I hate this stoplight takes forever should I just go yep the leaves are changing wow I hope my kitty’s OK man it is hot and crowded in this room I am jittery jittery jittery and my heart is pounding like a big bass drum and suddenly I am so ... darn ... tired ...

My mind during this fabulous Beginning Meditation class, with about 20 friends, including Doug, our wise and beloved instructor, focusing only on breathing and the body:

Eyes closed ... breathing in ... breathing out ... I can feel my feet without looking ...

Focusing on the scalp ... relaxing scalp ... relaxing face, eyes, mouth, chin, neck ... relax those tight shoulders; just be aware that they’re tight ... breathing in, acknowlege the apex ... breathing out ... the out out out ... try and relax left shoulder, arm, hand and fingers ... now right shoulder, arm, hand, ngers ... breathing in ... breathing out ...

I am going under again ... am all about this body and this magical, musical, spiritual, Nat Geo light show journey ...

Breathing in ... breathing out ... gently return to the breathing if your mind wanders ...

What a spectacular body God gave me ... still kicking, still ticking strong after all these years ... so lucky, so lucky ... great body memories ... I am 10 again, diving into ice-cold Sheridan Lake, going fetal and screaming in joy ... I’m 12 ... Dad is hitting me my balls, and look at my legs go to catch ‘em ...

I am an Incan Sun God, running outside my body on a summer evening at age 17 ... can almost hear Music of the Spheres ...

... and now we imagine we’re wrapped in a light, translucent pod ... whichever color I desire ... maybe teal green ... so beautiful, so beautiful ...

... spinning through the musical Cosmos of my body ... so amazing ... wonder if can everyone else can hear this music ... the Buddha would love it ...

... focusing on the chest and belly ... breathing in ... breathing out ... now left thigh, knee ... shin ... foot ... ankle ... toes ... breathing in ... breathing out ...

... right thigh, knee ... shin ... foot ... ankle ... toes ...

... breathing in ... breathing out...

... Coming to now ... slowly, gently, ascending from the lovely depths ...

... Doug rings his Singing Bowl ... lightly ... a bit louder ... and one more time with that beautiful ancient echoing bell sound ...

... Ding! ... breathe in ... breathe out ... We awaken fully to discuss the journey. And soon we’re o into the dark night, heading 21 directions.

The air smells heavenly. I’m hungry. There’s a spring to my step, a light in my soul.

I smile inside.

Lucky, lucky, lucky ...
