It's back to school time

It's hard to believe that I graduated from high school six years ago and graduated from college three years ago.

Even though its been a while since I have been out of school this time of year I always have flashbacks to the first day of school.

What's really cool about the first day of school is no matter what grade you are in, or what your role is or how many years you have been doing it, it's always different.

I remember in elementary school, they would never tell us what teacher we would have, so the first day of school was always a suspenseful day to find out what teacher you would have and who would be in your class.

When I got to junior high school, it was suspenseful because I was going to a new school, which was originally a high school so it was very big, and at one time was a bomb shelter, so it was a very old and unique building.

For me the biggest thing was the fact that there were about 10 elementary schools that made up the junior high school so during those times, especially the first day of school, it was really important to make new friends.

Then I made my way to high school, where I went to a new school again, this time knowing more people who I went to junior high with, but still I was in a completely different environment, going to school and sometimes being in classes with people who were sometimes 17 or 18 years old.

One of the fun things about high school was being able to play school sports. Where I grew up we didn’t have middle school sports through the school so playing freshman football was the first time I was able to play on a school team.

When I got to college that was also a very exciting first day of school.

College is a completely different environment and not only was this the first time I would be living out of my parents house, it also meant I was living in a completely different state.

As a journalist in small town communities I also realized that I have had a role when it comes to the first day of school.

Whether were out taking first day(s) of school photos, doing back to school stories, or prepping the editorial calendar for what will be very busy and fun months ahead, I still have a role when it comes to the first day of school.

First days of schools is a very important time no matter what your role is!

To all of the area students, teachers, staff, and parents, I wish you all nothing but the best of luck this year and I hope you all have an awesome 2019-2020 school year!
