William Olson, 89
William Alfred Olson, age 89, died at his home in Rochester on Friday morning, Feb. 9, 2018. In his last days he was visited by his children and well-cared for by his wife Merece and The Seasons Hospice. To that we are eternally grateful.
He was born on March 7, 1928 in St. Peter. He is the son of Oscar and Annie Olson, who preceded him in death. He has two remaining siblings, Dan Olson of Dodge Center and Shirley Jorstad of Hayfield.
Dad lived a full and accomplished life. He was active in his community, valued family, and was professionally successful. His motto was “Work and Play Hard”- that is what he did!
He graduated from Hayfield High School and went on to obtain a business degree. He started hauling eggs and chickens for Collins Produce in Dodge Center. He then went on to work for State Farm Insurance for 30 years, developing an agency and later entering management.
He was on the boards of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Golf Club, and in retirement he was president of the Revconeer. As he was doing this, he was involved in the raising of five children. He liked to have fun playing cards, hunting and fishing, golfing, motor homing-traveling around the country, and visiting his kids.
He is survived by his wife, Merece Olson of Rochester and her six children and respective families. Arlene Olson, his wife, preceded him in death. He has five children - Bruce Olson of Phoenix, retired from the Air Force, who has three children and six grandchildren; Pam and Parviz Olson-Alasty of Tobyhanna, PA, who is a practicing clinical social worker in private practice, and her husband, the director of The Youth Employment Services of Monroe County; Mark and Gail Olson of Hesperia, Calif. -who has his own pests control business and works along with Gail to raise, so far, 12 adopted children; Nancy and Andy Ventura of Winona -she works in the Human Service industry and Andy works at the Mayo Clinic-they have 2 daughters; Shelly and Blair Lindsey of Brandon, Fla. -Shelly works in automotive sales and Blair in auto repair.
