Richard Swenson, 84, Fairbault

Richard P. Swenson, age 84, of Faribault died on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna surrounded by his family.

Memorial services were held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Faribault on June 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Interment was at Geneva Cemetery, Geneva.

Arrangements were completed by the Boldt Funeral Home in Faribault.

Richard Paul, son of Russell and Pearl (Madson) Swenson was born on Aug. 4, 1933 in Dodge County. Richard attended rural school and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1952. He served in the United States Army. He married Patricia Long on March 10, 1957 in Geneva.

He attended Dunwoody Institute for two years to become an electrician. Richard was employed by Pine Bend Refinery for over 30 years as a Master Electrician and later taught at South Central Technical College. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering with cars and worked for the Census Bureau. He was a member of the American Legion Post #43 and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Faribault. Richard loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; three children, Tom Swenson-Nunez (and Noisel Chacon-Nunez) of St. Paul, Beth (and Brian) DeMers of Shakopee and Tim Swenson of Faribault; grandchildren, Jessica Sunde, Danielle Reyes, Adam Swenson, Jacob Swenson, Brandyn DeMers, Brittany DeMers, Sarah Deckenbach, Rachel Swenson, Brant Gregoire; great grandchildren, Adrianna Reyes, Angel Reyes, Richard Reyes, Greyson Sunde, Owen Sunde, Liam Sunde, Leo Deckenbach, Lila Deckenbach and Levi Deckenbach, Gage Gregoire and Rilynn Gregoire; two brothers, David (and Rita) Swenson of Albert Lea and Dennis (and Laura) Esplan of Windom. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Swenson and Pearl (and Raymond) Esplan; one daughter, Brenda Swenson; one granddaughter, Tiffany DeMers; three siblings, Ronald Swenson, Darrell Swenson and Darla Bailey. Memorials can be made to the donor’s choice.
