Raymond Oswald Schmitz, 88, West Concord
Raymond Oswald Schmitz, 88, of West Concord, died Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Kenyon Sunset Home.
He was born May 16, 1930 in Two Inlets the son of Leo and Caroline (Taskey) Schmitz. Ray grew up near Two Inlets and graduated from Park Rapids High School. During his school years, he worked fall harvest in North Dakota.
On April 20, 1949, Ray married Mary Lou Hummel at their church’s rectory in Two Inlets. The couple moved to Alden where Ray operated a produce business. Ray was later in sales for Dean's Specialty Supply of Waseca. He owned and operated R&R Supply in St. Charles. After closing R&R, they lived in Rochester for a short time before moving to Arizona, where Ray owned and operated a carpet cleaning company.
Upon returning to Minnesota, the couple lived in Dodge Center and West Concord where Ray had Smitty's Carpet Cleaning. He retired in 2005.
Ray enjoyed woodworking and carving. He built a lot of custom furniture and clocks. Ray loved to deer hunt and go fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Schmitz of West Concord; children, Peggy (and Wesley) Leas of West Concord, Deborah (and Richard) Blowers of Motley, Patricia (and David) Dosse of St. Paul, Michelle (and Tom) Swanson of Zionville, NC, Kerry (and Tom) Ohnstad of Owatonna; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; 4 brothers, Clarence (and Mary Schmitz, Art Schmitz, Melvin (and Judy) Schmitz, Julian Schmitz; sisters, Betty Bickerstaff, Geraldine (and Jim) Peterson, Jeanette Davis, Mildred (and Richard) Stanek and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Schmitz; daughter, Jacqueline Schmitz and three brothers.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
