Madeline "Dolly" Thomas, 92, West Concord
Madeline "Dolly" Thomas, 92, of West Concord, died Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Kenyon Sunset Home.
She was born July 17, 1926, the daughter of John and Elsie (Haberman) Pognes, on a farm in Blooming Prairie Township where she grew up. She attended school through the eighth grade. After her schooling, she lived and worked in Rochester. During this time, she met the love of her life, Ray Thomas, at a dance in Bixby. The couple dated for a few years and were married on Oct. 2, 1947.
They made their home on Ray's grandfather, J.E. Thomas' farm in Ellington Township in Dodge County. Ray passed away in 1971, and Dolly continued living on the farm for a number of years before moving to West Concord.
Dolly was an accomplished seamstress. Many of her clients were the doctors and their wives from the Mayo Clinic as well as local brides for whom she made wedding dresses. She also helped Ray on the farm, raised chickens and had a garden.
She loved to travel. She made many trips throughout the United States and around the world with her good friend of 25 years, John Putta. They also spent winters in Florida for over 20 years. Dolly also enjoyed morning coffee with her friends at Gilbert's Café. She was known by many as the lady who walked continuously for her daily exercise.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Rita) Thomas of Spring Grove and Bonnie (Sandy) Thomas-Michaud of Visalia, Calif.; brother Ronald (Nadine) Pogones of Austin; grandchildren, Kamie (Ryan) Richardson, Kristina Acosta-Michaud, Ray (Annalee) Thomas, Chad (Laura) Thomas, Daniel (Jessica) Thomas, Amy (Chris) Freiderich, Faith Solum, Luke Thomas, Jacob Thomas, Neal Thomas, Robin Solum, Kyle Thomas and Dana Thomas and 29 great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Thomas; son, David Thomas; siblings, Gilbert Pogones, Lovirn Pogones, Cecil Pogones and Shirley Sahf; a great-grandchild and close friend, John Putta.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, West Concord with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna.
