Evelyn Robinson Edmond, 103, Dodge Center
Evelyn Robinson Edmond, 103, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.
Evelyn was born March 24, 1915 at Bruno, Pine County, Minn., to Mary and Edgar Robinson. When Evelyn was a few months old, the family moved back to West Concord where she would later attend school. While working in a restaurant in West Concord, Evelyn met William “Bill” Edmond who was looking for a good barber. After going together for almost a year, they were married on Oct. 8, 1936 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hayfield. They made their home on the family farm by Claremont, and Evelyn became a true farmers wife participating in all the hard work that comes with farming. The couple was blessed with three children, George, Evelyn and Sue.
In 1944, the family moved to a farm in rural Kasson where they farmed for several years. Bill passed away June 3, 1953.
As the children got older, Evelyn went to work at the lunch counter at Donaldson’s Department Store in Rochester. From there she cooked in three other restaurants and later as a substitute cook at the Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School. Evelyn was well known for her cooking and baking abilities; especially her dinner rolls, strawberry pies, and white cakes, which were all “made from scratch”. Evelyn took great pride in the fact that everything she made was homemade. All those years of cooking and baking took their toll and she retired in 1981.
Evelyn was very active as a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kasson where she served as elder, Sunday School teacher and in the Presbyterian Women’s organization. She was also active in the Royal Neighbors of America, Kasson American Legion Auxiliary, Fairview Resthome Auxiliary and Senior Citizens of Kasson, serving as president for many years.
Evelyn is survived by children George (Bernis) Edmond, Evelyn (Bob) Sunness, and Sue Alberts, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild as well as nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, brothers Archie and Lyle Robinson, and sisters Rose Wichser and Florence Vangness.
A memorial service for Evelyn will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 6th Ave NW, Kasson with Pastor Carl Grosse officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. Inurnment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Claremont in late spring.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church of Kasson.
