Dorothy Johnston, 95, Kasson
Dorothy A. Johnston, 95, passed away on Feb. 13, 2017, at her residence at Prairie Meadows Sr. Living in Kasson.
Dorothy was born on Dec. 14, 1921. She was the eldest of nine children, born to Jacob and Agnes (Krippner) Simons in Stewart, Minnesota.
She attended grades one through eight at St. Bonifaces Catholic School. She worked at a mink farm near Brownton, Minnesota. While there, she met Roy Frisson and they married. They moved to South Dakota, then moved to a farm in Annandale, Minnesota. They were later divorced. Dorothy moved to Portland, Oregon and married V. Dean Johnston in 1960. They enjoyed dancing and traveling in their motor home. In 2000, Dorothy and Dean moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. When Dean died in 2003, Dorothy moved to Kasson.
People called Dorothy the lady in red with the gorgeous smile. She enjoyed music, dancing, crafts, family gatherings and spending time with friends. She enjoyed her poodle, Rocky, and her birds.
She is survived by sisters Kathryn (Tom) Sheehan, of Champlin, Minnesota and Mildred (Fred) LaLonde, of Hutchinson, Minnesota and by brothers Joseph (Deanna) Simons, of Kasson and Frank (Cathy) Simons, of Elko, Minnesota. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Dean; brothers Ray Simons, Fairfax, Minnesota, Albert (Bobbi) Simons, St. Paul Lenny (Bernice) Simons, Maplewood; sister Teresa (Marlin) Holm from Prior Lake, Minnesota and nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Church of the Holy Family, 1904 N. Mantorville Ave, Kasson with Fr. Paul Surprenant officiating. Visitation will be the same day from 9:00-11:00 am at the church. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery, Stewart at a later date.
