Donald L. Bakke, 91, Blooming Prairie

Donald L. Bakke, 91, of Blooming Prairie, passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2018 at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie. 

Donald Lawrence Bakke was born April 19, 1927 in Bismarck, North Dakota to Oscar and Ruth (Green) Bakke. On May 7, 1945, he entered the service in the United States Navy. While in the service, Donald completed his GED and received his military diploma. He was honorably discharged from the service on Aug. 2, 1946. 

On April 29, 1951, Donald was united in marriage to Doralene Anderson at the Community Lutheran Church in Geneva. The couple was blessed with 67 years of marriage and together had five children. He was a lifelong Blooming Prairie resident and worked as a stone and marble mason and bricklayer for many years. He did lots of marble work for Mayo Clinic and stone work for the First Lutheran church in Blooming Prairie. 

Donald was a member of the American Legion Post 52, Eastern Star Oakland Chapter 144, and the Mason Lodge 123. He enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage, playing with his pets, and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

 Donald is survived by his sons, David Bakke of Rochester, Donald Robert Bakke of Blooming Prairie; daughter, Diana (Mark) Kubat of Owatonna; eight grandchildren, Jackie Bakke of Jacksonville, Florida, Eric Bakke of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Leif Bakke of Broken Arrow, Lexi Saufferer of Owatonna, Mason Saufferer of Owatonna, Minnesota, Reagan Saufferer of Owatonna, Minnesota, Brandon Saufferer, Michael Saufferer of Owatonna; many great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ruth Bakke; and his sons, Daniel Bakke and Darwin Bakke.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 at the First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Mike Walerius officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Blooming Prairie City Cemetery in Blooming Prairie with military honors by the Blooming Prairie Honor Guard.
