Donald “Don” Kasper, 1932–2015, Owatonna
Donald Charles Kasper, age 83 of rural Owatonna, passed away Sept. 3, 2015, at Homestead Hospice House. Don was born June 3, 1932, in Owatonna, to parents Charles and Marie Kasper. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1950. After high school he went to work on the family farm. In 1953 he joined the Army where he served for two years being honorably discharged in 1955. After service he returned back to farming in the area. In 1958 he married RitaJean Springer at St. Joseph Church in Owatonna. In the early 80s he worked for Cedar Valley Services driving bus until 2001. He then enjoyed traveling around the country. Throughout his life Don enjoyed helping out with the Blooming Prairie Knights of Columbus. He was on the Hope Co-op Board and a member of the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed playing cards and square dancing, but most of all he loved being close to his family.
Don is survived by children Kathy (Dan) Hansen, Hope, Tim Kasper, Bloomington, Steve (Penni) Kasper, Owatonna, Mary (Ken) Anderson, North Mankato, Carol Kasper, Owatonna; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren with three on the way; sister Marge Kruckeberg, St. Clair, Minnesota; brothers Charles Kasper, Montgomery and David (Pam) Kasper, Owatonna; sister-in-law Phylis Springer, Owatonna; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife RitaJean; parents; and brother Robert Kasper.
Friends may greet the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Rd) and one hour prior to the funeral mass at church. A Blooming Prairie Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Litomysl. Military Honors will be provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit.
