Calvin George Paulson, 90, of Rochester, died Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Homestead of Rochester Rehabilitation and Living Center.
He was born June 13, 1927 in Austin, the son of Alvin and Ida “Marie” (Hjelmun) Paulson. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1945. On August 20, 1951, he married Carol Rockne in Austin.
The couple farmed for 25 years west of Blooming Prairie. They moved to Owatonna in 1969 and owned and operated Cal’s Laundromat for nine years. Calvin then worked for Steele County from 1978-1993 and retired at age 65 as the Building Maintenance Supervisor. In retirement, he also mowed lawn at St. John Cemetery.
Calvin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna serving on the call committee, the Sons of Norway and the Elks. He enjoyed woodcarving, visiting with everyone, and helping anyone who needed help. He was a generous man giving of his time to his family, church and friends. There were no strangers to Calvin as he easily started a conversation with everyone he met. He was especially proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Paulson of Rochester; children, Sherri (and David) Johnson of Eagan, Greg (and Renee) Paulson of Rochester and Tracy (and Brian) Ryks of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson and a sister-in-law, Joyce Larson of Edina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Ida “Marie” Paulson and his sisters, Bernice Milton and Harriet Lawman.
A funeral service will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna with the Rev. Amanda Weinkauf officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
