Allan Carlson, 77
The memorial service for Allan O. Carlson, 77, of rural Byron, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17 at South Zumbro Lutheran Church in rural Kasson, with Rev. Eldon Simonson officiating.
Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
Mr. Carlson died on Thursday March 1, 2018 of a short illness with cancer, at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas, where he had been a patient.
Allan Obert Carlson was born on Feb. 3, 1941 in Rock Dell Township, Olmsted County, to Obert and Geneva (Nereson) Carlson. He grew up on the family farm, attended rural school and Kasson High School, and then worked in various jobs.
Allan was married on Nov. 17, 1961 in Dodge County to Doris D. Root. Following their wedding the couple lived in Byron and in Dodge Center for a number of years. They were later divorced.
Allan joined Pipefitters and Steam Workers Union Local #6 in Rochester and was employed as a pipefitter on oil pipelines in many different cities and states, and as a welder in commercial construction for over 35 years until his retirement in 2003. He lived in Byron with his special friend, Donna Schott, for the past 35 years.
Allan was a longtime member of South Zumbro Lutheran Church in rural Kasson. He enjoyed going to Texas in the winter with Donna, golfing, collecting toy tractors and time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Allan is survived by his children; Brenda (Kevin) Schendel of St. Cloud, Fla.; Craig (Jennifer) of Kasson; Eric (Annette) of Mantorville, and Elayne King of Claremont; his special friend, Donna Schott of Byron and her children Duane (Mike Madery) Lewis and Wendy Cooper; 15 grandchildren, Jacquie (Aaron) Meredith, Andrew Schendel, Megan Carlson, Kevin Carlson, Cory Carlson, Randi Carlson, Whitney(Chris) Hanson, Aricin Carlson, Brasen Carlson, Trygg Carlson, Hollie Carlson, Jenna Tumlin, Lucas King, Natasha King and Christopher Cooper; four great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Kenidy, Josie and Geneva; his sister, Jeaneen Jensen of Edina, and nephews Todd (Roxanne) Carlson of Grand Meadow, and Tim (Els) Carlson of the Eemnes, Netherlands.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Curt, sister-in-law VeeAnn Carlson, brother-in-law Duane Jensen, and nephew Troy Carlson.
A time of visitation for family friends will take place one hour before the service at the church on Saturday morning.
The Carlson Family suggests memorials to the Dodge County Relay for Life, the Humane Society – Rochester Chapter, and South Zumbro Lutheran Church.
