Reynolds named Hayfield’s Citizen of the Year
Vince Reynolds didn’t think there was anything particularly unusual about his family suggesting that they have a family dinner out Saturday night at the Hayfield American Legion. That is, until he walked into the Legion hall and saw his sister and brother-in-law and a group of other Hayfield residents already there.
It didn’t take long, however, for him to learn the reason he was having dinner with the Hayfield Chamber of Commerce. Reynolds, a Hayfield High School history teacher and 1st Sergeant in the Marine Corps Reserve, was being honored as Hayfield’s Citizen of the Year.
His kids suggested the family go to the Legion for dinner, Reynolds said, because it was the last night that they would all be home.
“I had no idea,” he said. “The kids wanted to do something. I walked in and saw my sister and brother-in-law.”
Reynolds and his family moved to Hayfield when he was in the sixth grade, he said, and he graduated from Hayfield High School in 1986. Immediately after graduating, he said, he joined the Marine Corps and served on active duty for six years.
