DCI picked best in state

The Dodge County Independent has been named one of the best newspapers in Minnesota.

On Thursday, the newspaper earned first place in general excellence at the Minnesota Newspaper Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest in Brooklyn Park. General excellence is one of the highest awards given out to newspapers in the state.

Competing in the non-dailies 1,501 to 3,000 circulation category, the DCI grabbed the attention of judges who commented, “This weekly is packed with community news. Its strong design makes it both visually appealing and easy to read. The sports copy is especially well reported, and the opinion pages were quite effective.”

The DCI also earned a first place award in the typography and design category. In making the selection, the judges said, “Pages were clean and balanced, giving appropriate weight to the headlines and photos.”
