West Concord Scouts serve during Merit Badge Fair
Members of Boy Scout Troop 58 of West Concord executed the opening and closing flag programs during a Game Haven Council annual Merit Badge Fair, held March 17 at Willow Creek Elementary School in Rochester.
The Scouts constructed a free-standing flag pole, utilizing their skills in knots and lashing.
The Troop Color Guard also carried in the state, Council, Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow and the BSA Bi-Centennial Flags.
Area Eagle Scouts served as flag-bearers for Service Memorial flags in a tribute to servicemen and women. The flags, provided by American Legion Post 295 of West Concord, are normally utilized during Memorial Day at the Concord cemetery.
First District Area 2 Vice Commander Myron Ehrich, a West Concord resident, gave a few remarks and introduced the Eagle Scout flag-bearers during the closing program, which called attention to those who protect our borders.
Merit Badge fairs provide the Scouts an opportunity to earn badges where perhaps counselors were not readily available to them in their hometowns.
Troop 58 services Dodge Center, West Concord and Claremont.
“In all, a very respectful display and meaningful tribute provided by the Scouts of Troop 58 and the Eagles Scouts towards our nation’s ideals and heritage,” assistant Scout master and Order of the Arrow advisor John Zeller said.
