Those Affected by Government Shutdown May Qualify for Food Assistance at Local Food Shelves.

January 09, 2019 – The immediate impact of the partial government shutdown is being felt by the approximately 1,600 federal employees in Southeastern Minnesota who are either currently furloughed or required to work without pay. Channel One Regional Food Bank is ready to assist these public servants and anyone else who needs help during this difficult time.

Qualification to receive food assistance is based on household income for that week, NOT for the full year. Therefore, many of these employees affected by the shutdown may qualify for services at food shelves/pantries.   For further information about how services operate, how to sign up, and how to locate a food shelf/pantry please call 507-424-1707. We hope that anyone affected by financially stressful times who qualify for this service will shop with us.

“This is a great example of why food shelves are so important. People have unexpected things happen in their lives that they can’t control and no one should have to worry about not having the food they need,” states Virginia Merritt, Executive Director at Channel One Regional Food Bank, “We are glad to be here to support our community.”
