Owatonna gymnastics top Faribault on Huskies’ Senior Night
The Owatonna gymnastics team celebrated Senior Night with a 147.050-122.475 win over Faribault on Friday at the Owatonna Gymnastics Club.
Seniors Allison An, Sydney Kretlow and Grace Barner were honored in a pre-meet ceremony.
“[An and Kretlow] have had incredible careers being all-conference, all-section and all-state almost every year,” Owatonna head coach Tom Smith said. “Grace has always been a consistent performer and would compete on most varsity in the state, but our depth on the team is incredible.”
"This is our fourth-year being undefeated in the conference and section," Smith said. Owatonna had the high scores in every event.
Sophomore Lindsay Bangs earned gold in the vault (9.500), uneven bars (9.550), balance beam (8.900) and all-around (37.325). An won the floor exercise with a score of 9.650.
The Huskies had the four highest all-around scores in Bangs (37.325), An (37.075), Lucy Macius (36.400) and Kretlow (36.250). Barner’s all-around score of 32.750 was good enough for sixth overall with only Faribault’s Lauren McDonough (34.350) earning a higher score.
Owatonna junior varsity team won 13 had the top five finishers in every competition.
“The JV scored 137.6 and broke the school record by 1.7,” Smith said. “That score would beat 80 percent of the varsity teams in the state.”
Cheyenne Petersen led the Huskies with an all-around score of 34.200. She was followed by Kaitlyn Cobban (35.050), Kaelyn Smith (34.050) and
Marissa Gronli (31.550).
Owatonna will be back in action on February 9 in Win e Big 9 Conference Meet.
