Love for Byron leads Chamber president into his new role

Although he didn’t grow up in Byron, Jameson Hanson is someone that has been involved heavily in the community in a variety of different ways since moving to town with his wife four years ago.

Now, Hanson will begin his new role in the community as he serves as the Byron Chamber of Commerce President.

Originally from the small town of Adams, Hanson went to the University of Minnesota, where he met his wife. They moved to Austin after college.

For three years, Hanson managed the Anytime Fitness in Stewartville, before taking over as the owner.

After a couple of years, Hanson also bought the Byron Anytime Fitness and moved to Byron. With that came his involvement with the community, including becoming a part of the chamber.

After learning about the community and seeing all the positives it has to offer, Hanson was nominated to serve as the vice president last year and this year is serving as the president of the chamber.

For Hanson, one of the things that attracted him to become more involved with the chamber is the fact that so many people who are involved are very selfless people that want to help make Byron even better.

“The more I got involved the more I was able to meet some of the most generous and selfless people,” Hanson said.

One of the main goals that Hanson pointed to for the executive board this year is to get to 125 members by the end of the year. After starting off the year with 92, they are currently at 106 members and expect to exceed their goal by the end of the year.

Some of the other things the chamber hopes to continue doing is having events that many people go to, which includes things like their events that they help sponsor, networking events, and lunch and learns. Most importantly, Hanson explained that the most important thing for the chamber to do is to help support local businesses and to help support the concept of shopping local, which is crucial for small towns like Byron.

Hanson explained that some of the people that he has met through his business ventures in Byron aren’t just fellow community members, but have become very good friends.

“The people I met through my business are some of my best friends,” Hanson said.

Hanson sees the community of Byron as a vibrant one and as it continues to grow, he feels like there is no reason why it has to be a bedroom community.

“There's no reason why Byron has to be a bedroom community, it can be a destination where people want to live, work, and play,” Hanson said.

Overall Hanson is glad he made the decision to move to Byron and become apart of the community.

“I love Byron,” Hanson said, “I’m glad to call it my home.”
