Brookside rolls out the welcome mat for chamber picnic

Dondi and Carla Stender unrolled the welcome mat for Blooming Prairie Area Chamber of Commerce members by hosting a summer picnic at Brookside Camp Grounds on Wednesday, June 19.

The picnic was attended by 40 Chamber members and guests including members' youngsters.

The Stenders grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. The menu also included potato salad, beans, potato chips, chocolate cake and beverages.

It was very appropriate when the night concluded with a drawing for Blooming Prairie bucks that the winner was Dondi Stender. He chose to receive a video on BP.

Following the delicious meal, Chamber vice president Miranda Camery presided over a short business meeting.

The Fourth of July Committee report was given by Sarah Esplan and Becky Noble, executive director. Esplan said 500 buttons were sold by sellers who went door to door on May 22. Noble reported that this year will be the last year for the car show and tractor pull.

The Chamber's annual golf Fun Day is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17 at the Blooming Prairie Country Club. This year's Fun Day marks the 25th anniversary of the golf outing.

In other business, member Karen Peterson reported on the Blooming Prairie Backpack Program. She said Cargill recently donated $5,000 to the program. She also said Hendrickson Trucking of Blooming Prairie donated 64 cases of pasta to the Backpack program.
