BREAKING NEWS: Sex offender arrested on sexual assault charges in Dodge County

A young men's leader at a Kasson church faces sex assault charges.
Michael Adam Davis, 34, was arrested on April 3 by Dodge County deputies in Dodge Center after an investigation involving an alleged sexual assault of a minor. The two met while Davis was a young men’s leader at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Kasson. The incident did not occur at the church or at a church function. At this time, this is the only juvenile that has come forward reporting alleged inappropriate behavior by Davis.
Davis is a lifetime registered sex offender due to a previous conviction in Utah involving a minor.

Davis is facing two first degree sexual assault charges, and  is being held on $200,000 unconditional bail/ $100,000 conditional bail with his next court appearance scheduled for April 18 at 11 a.m. He has been ordered to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18 and no internet use.

Sheriff Scott Rose stated this should be a reminder to make sure criminal background checks are being done on any adults working with children.

“This should serve as an important reminder to any organization with activities involving children  make sure you are conducting criminal background checks on any adults, paid or volunteer, that you are allowing to have contact with children. There are reputable companies out there that specialize in background checks for organizations  including companies that work with houses of worship. There are also some very reputable companies’ right here in our region. Unfortunately, there are also companies that claim to offer nationwide background checks at low prices that’s usually not the case and many will not discover out-of-state criminal history. As with anything, you get what you pay for. Remember to make sure records are being checked in each state the applicant has lived. A simple way to identify any outstate employment is with a credit check or social security report,” Rose stated.

Davis is being held at the Steele County Jail in Owatonna.
