BREAKING NEWS: Freeborn sheriff needs help in armed robbery
The Freeborn County Sheriff is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in an armed robbery by Clarks Grove.
Sheriff Kurt Freitag said a 911 call was received at 9:32 p.m. on Sept. 3 reporting an armed robbery at the Gopher Stop located on the edge of Clarks Grove. Sheriff’s deputies as well as Albert Lea Police and the State Patrol responded to the scene.
Witnesses told police the suspect left on foot in a westerly direction. Freeborn County’s K-9 searched the area, but was unable to come up with the suspect.
“The K-9 team was able to track a scent from the Gopher Stop directly west along Highway 251 where the scent abruptly ended a short distance from County Road 45,” Freitag said.
According to Freitag, three male employees were working at the time of the robbery. They told police the suspect said more than once that “I’m going to shoot you, give me your money.”
One employee told the suspect, “No, you’re not., shoot me then, I’m not giving you money.” During the verbal exchange, the suspect pulled out a handgun from his pocket, but did not point the gun at any of the employees, Freitag said.
The employee stated the suspect turned towards the kitchen at which time he grabbed his cell phone to call 911. When the suspect approached him again, the employee told the suspect, “I’m not giving you s**t (expletive), they’re (deputies) on their way.”
The suspect then fled from the store to the west, Freitag said.
The suspect is described as a white male, 20s, skinny and “scrawny” build, 6-foot and wearing a clear plastic mask with black markings on the mask and a gray hoodie with “Abercrombie” on the front and gray sweat pants.
Freitag asks anyone with information to call the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office at 507-377-5200.
