BREAKING NEWS: Elderly man killed by construction truck in Mantorville

An elderly man riding his bicycle died after being run over by a construction truck in Mantorville.

Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose identified the victim as Darrel Faulkner, 81, of Mantorville. He was killed instantly in the crash around 7:26 a.m. Wednesday.

The incident happened in the area of 3rdStreet West and Walnut Street. When sheriff’s deputies arrived they found a bicyclist had been run over by a water tanker truck owned by Elcor Construction, who is the contractor doing road construction in that Mantorville neighborhood.

Rose said Faulkner was riding his bicycle along the same roadway the truck was traveling down while watering new sod along the north side of the road. At some point, the truck made contact with Faulkner who went down on his bicycle and got caught up underneath the truck resulting in him getting run over.

According to Rose, the driver of the truck never saw the bicyclist before the incident.

At this time, no charges are expected in this unfortunate incident.

The Minnesota State Patrol reconstructed the crash and inspected the vehicle. The sheriff’s chaplains assisted at the scene, along with the Olmsted County Medical Examiner’s Office.
