Heidt, Suess honored at Rochester Sports Banquet
As has been the case in recent history, Kasson-Mantorville
was well represented at the Rochester Area Sports Commission Banquet on Monday night. In another case of history repeating itself, a KoMet athlete and a coach walked away with hardware at Monday’s event as K-M volleyball’s Peyton Suess was named the Female High School Athlete of the Year and K-M wrestling coach Jamie Heidt was named Coach of the Year.
Suess’ senior season was a dominant way to cap off her five-year career at K-M. Suess broke the program’s all-time record for career kills and blocks, while also being named as an All-State athlete. Under her leadership, Suess helped lead the KoMets to their third consecutive state tournament berth and will be heading off to play volleyball at Wake Forest next fall.
Heidt has been in charge of the K-M wrestling program for seven years and has helped shape it into one of the most dominant not only in the state, but in the country. During his time at K-M, Heidt has led the KoMets to five state titles and is helping this year’s version of the team attempt to capture a sixth this spring.
Along with Suess and Heidt, several other teams were nominated for awards at Monday’s event. The K-M volleyball and wrestling teams were both nominated for team of the year while K-M wrestler Patrick Kennedy was nominated for Male High School Athlete of the Year.
