K-M’s Bigelow honored with 2018 Bob Welch Award
During the Lewiston Auto Holiday Classic, Kasson-Mantorville senior Logan Bigelow earned a distinct honor by being named the recipient of the 2018 Bob Welch Memorial Award. The two-day tournament, which the K-M boys basketball team participated in on December 27 and 28, gives out the award for a student’s leadership on the court and being a great member in the community off of it.
“Winning this award means a lot to me,” Bigelow said. “I like being part of this community and living in a small town it’s a big deal to help out because everybody knows who you are. I just think it’s important to be a leader because you can help some people that may not be taking a path that is the right way.”
On the court, Bigelow has been a big part in the KoMets’ success even if it hasn’t shown in their record. By maintaining a positive attitude, he’s been a mentor to some of the younger
players on the team who are learning to play at the varsity level.
“Logan has been a great leader for us,” K-M head coach Nick Pocius said. “He’s maintained the positivity even though we are in a rough patch and he’s helped us remain positive through these growing pains that
we are experiencing on the court.”
Bigelow is heavily involved within the K-M community not only as a three-sport athlete (football, basketball and baseball), but also through activities such as Link Crew and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. With everything involved, Bigelow is a well rounded individual that plays a big part in the community.
“Logan is a great, responsible student within this school and in the community,” K-M boys basketball head coach Nick Pocius said. “He demonstrates that by just being positive and working with our little kids that he’s making this school a great place to be.”
