Westfield wins third straight dual
While two consecutive wins is a coincidence, three is a trend, and the Westfield wrestling team is trending in the right direction after beating United South Central 39-18 on Thursday, Jan. 16.
The Rebels actually scored the first three points of the dual when Bo Zweiner lost by a 0-3 decision at 113 pounds, but Westfield’s Lane Lembke tied the score by winning via a 5-2 decision at 120 pounds.
The Razorbacks’ Alex Lea and Keegan Bronson both won by forfeit to give Westfield a 15-3 lead.
However, United South Central rallied by winning the next two weights, 138 and 145 pounds, by decision. They then tied the score at 15-15 when the Rebels’ Micah Hamson won by fall over the Razorbacks’ Bradley Simon.
At 160 pounds, Westfield’s Matthew Pryor won by forfeit and Tyler Archer won by fall at 170 pounds to give the Razorbacks a 27-15 lead.
In the closest match of the dual, Dylan Ehmke lost by 6-7 decision to trim Westfield’s lead to nine points, 27-18.
But that’s as close the Rebels would get as the Razorbacks’ Colton Krell and Dylan Nirk both won by forfeit at 220 pounds and 285 pounds to seal the win.
The 39-18 victory improves Westfield’s overall record to 7-7, 5-1 in their section.
The Razorbacks’ next match is a tournament in Lake City on Saturday, Jan. 25. Their next and final home match, at Blooming Prairie High School, is against Medford. It’s scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6.
