Unbeaten Blossoms qualify for state semis

It’s time for the Awesome Blossoms of Blooming Prairie to cash in at the bank. U.S. Bank Stadium, that is, with a couple of big victories leading to a state football title.

Blooming Prairie is on the verge of winning its first ever state football championship as the unbeaten Blossoms (11-0) qualified for state semi-finals Saturday after beating up on another unbeaten team, Springfield-Comfrey, 42-20.

The Blossoms now take on Ada-Borup (10-1) Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis. The other semi-final contest will feature BOLD (12-0) against Browerville-Eagle Valley (10-1) at 9 a.m.

The winners of both semi-final games will battle it out for the state championship on Friday, Nov. 29 at 10 a.m.

This will not be Blooming Prairie’s first time competing at U.S. Bank Stadium. Last year, the Blossoms lost 37-7 to BOLD in state semis.

In last Saturday’s other state quarterfinal playoff game, St. Thomas Academy dethroned two-time state champions, Owatonna Huskies, 21-0, in Woodbury. The loss ended Owatonna’s 29-game winning streak that included back-to-back state titles in Class 5A.
