Season begins with pair of wins for BP girls
A poor shooting night didn’t hinder the Awesome Blossom girls from winning their second straight game, as they took Faribault Bethlehem Academy to task in a 51-23 victory on the home court Dec. 5. It gave the girls a 2-0 record in the young season.
Midway through the first half, the team trailed 13-15, but the team regrouped with stellar defense and scored 13 straight points for a 26-15 edge at the break.
The team rolled easily in the second half, with Julia Worke and Bobbie Bruns leading the way with 18 and 13 points. Bruns handed out 5 assists and stole the ball four times. Worke swished 4 three pointers and Megan Oswald and Maya Lembke contributed 6 and 4 points for the locals.
Coach Cory Hendrickson’s JV team also starts the season 2-0. The Blossoms defeated Bethlehem Academy 46-23 after winning a close contest over JWP 48-44 earlier in the week. Anna Pauly scored 9 points to lead the offense.
Scoring the first 16 points of the game gave the Awesome Blossom girls some immediate confidence, and the team rolled to a 64-23 victory over Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Dec. 4.
BP took a 48-19 halftime lead, as Megan Oswald counted 12 points in the first five minutes of the contest.
“We got that first big early lead,” commented Coach John Bruns, “and forced numerous turnovers leading to fast break points. Especially in the second half we did a better job of isolating their better scorers and held the Bulldogs to just 4 points.”
Bobbie Bruns had 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals to lead the Blossoms, and Maggie Bruns added 7 points. Maya Lembke cleared the boards for 6 rebounds, and nine different players scored for the Blossoms.
Anna Kittelson scored 17 points in the JVJ WP victory and Anna Pauly and Micalyn TrIhus added 9 and 6 points.
