BP volleyball team awards season ending honors

The 2019 volleyball season culminated with a .500 record at 15-15, and the team handed out several awards at the annual honors program.

Julia Worke earned the MVP award and also made second team Gopher Conference All-star squad.

Micalyn Trihus was named MVP on offense and earned an All-Conference Honorable mention; and Maren Forystek walked away with the MVP honor on defense. The Most Dedicated award also went to Worke. Megan Oswald earned an All Conference Sportsmanship award.

Twelve Blossoms earned letters for the season, and 10 players made the academic All-Conference team. Haile Most Improved and Maya Lembke earned the Awesome Blossom Team Spirit honors.

Riauna Bishop, Lembke, and Worke earned Coaches association All-state Academic  Awards, and the team was named the association’s Academic Gold Team award winner.

“We had five or six matches that we could have won,” commented Coach Ranell Kittelson, “but I thought each player contributed in their particular area of play. Julia Worke proved a real standout all over the court, Micalyn Trihus set a school record for a single match kills with 30, and Heather Pirkl recorded her 1,000 assist in the first match of the season.”

Kittelson went on to say, “Although we didn’t get some of the wins we should have, it was a fun season, and it was fun as a coach to watch the girls improve, build relationships, and make great memories of the season. I have no regrets.”

Several categories of statistics found leaders of note. Trihus led the team in ace serves with 3, Maggie Bruns had 21, and Heather Pirkl added 0. Trihus piled up 285 kills, Worke totaled 208, and Oswald added 93. Alison Krohnberg had a 2.33 passing average, Worke a 1.96, and Strunk a 1.85. Trihus had 74 blocks to her credit, Oswald 30, and Worke 26. Pirkl finished the year with 288 assists, and Bruns added 229.  Finally, Worke scrambled for 322 digs in the season, Maren Forystek had 305, and Lembke contributed 186.

These are all statistics of which the players can be proud, and it put a deserving finishing touch to another Awesome Blossom volleyball season.
