BP hoopsters open with a cake walk

“Without a great deal of practice,” remarked Coach Nate Piller, “I didn’t know what to expect, but the boys took over in good shape.”

The Blooming Prairie Blossoms boys basketball team rolled to a 73-40 victory over Bethlehem Academy Friday, Dec.  6. at Faribault. It was a good way to open the season. Senior Kaden Thomas led the offense in defense of teammate Gabe Hagen, who was Minneapolis practicing for the MSHSL All-Star football game.

The offense had a little trouble getting started on offense, but great defense and good ball handling made up for the lack of scoring. The team eventually got the offense in gear, and the scoring followed. BP led at the half 40-19.

Thomas ended with 24 points, including four three-pointers. Karson Vigeland contributed 11 points, and Drew Kittelson added 9.

Keck Robb led the Cardinals with 15 points, and JJ Malecha added 9.

Blooming Prairie will open its home season Friday against NRHEG at 7:15 p.m. The Blossoms will then host Goodhue on Dec. 17.
