BP girls keep rolling with two more wins

Another good defensive effort led the Blooming Prairie girls basketball team to kill United South Central 55-16 Jan. 16.

The Blossoms allowed only five first-half points, which allowed them to take control of the game from early on.

“We played solid in the second half as well, and we were able to get everyone on the roster some good playing time,” said Coach John Bruns.

Megan Oswald led the Blossoms with 16 points while Bobbie Bruns chipped in 12 points.

The battle of teams with one loss each on the season ended with the Blossoms coming out on top over Medford 49-41 Jan. 14.

Both teams came into the game with one conference loss, and they were 10-2 overall.

After leading most of the first half, Medford finished on a run to take a two-point lead at half time. Megan Oswald carried the Blossoms offensively in the first half scoring 15 of her 18 points.

With BP trailing going into the second half, the Blossoms allowed Medford only 11 points in the second half. “It was a defensive battle in the second half, but Bobbie Bruns came up with seven points and Allison Krohnberg came up with six to help seal the win,” said Coach Bruns.

“We have been close a couple times to getting big wins against highly regarded opponents like Medford so it was nice to finally break through with a big game victory,” Bruns said.

Friday’s game against United South Central was cancelled because of the weather.

The victories improved BP’s overall record to 12-2 and 6-1 in the Gopher Conference.

The Blossoms travel to Faribault Bethlehem Academy Friday night while Medford travels to Randolph Thursday and United South Central Friday. Blooming Prairie travels to Randolph Monday night.
