Blossoms grab thriller over Hayfield

After a slow start in a thrilling game on the Hayfield Viking boys basketball home court Feb. 7, Blooming Prairie's Awesome Blossoms used an aggressive defense to take command.

The Blossoms emerged victorious over the Vikings, 59-54. The victory upped the Blossoms' season record to 16-2, Gopher Conference mark to 8-1 and the Section 1A record to 8-0.

Down by 12 at one time, the Awesome Blossoms fought valiantly even without the services of starter Karson Vigeland for part of the first half and all of the second half. Vigeland suffered a knee injury at the four-minute mark of the first half.

The Blossoms went ahead for the first time at 22-21 and led 29-27 at the break.

The lead changed hands many times in the second half. The score was knotted at 40-40 with 9:24 remaining in the game. The game was tied at 54-all with 1:17 remaining. Two points by the Blossoms put them ahead 56-54 with a minute left.

With 23.6 seconds left, Kaden Thomas and Isaac Ille went to the free throw line and put the Blossoms ahead to stay.
