Blossom JV girls pick up big wins
Two big wins highlighted the week for the Blossoms junior varsity girls basketball team. They defeated United South Central and Medford last week.
On Thursday, Jan. 16, the Blossoms came out on top of a 35-31 game over Medford.
Macy Lembke led the Blossoms with nine points followed by Shawntee Snyder with seven and Anna Pauly and Addison Doocy with six each.
In the first half, USC outhustled the Blossoms, Hendrickson said. “They played much faster and stronger than we did,” he noted.
Hendrickson admitted this wasn’t the prettiest game for the Blossoms. “But we fought hard in the second half to get the win,” he said. “I was very proud of the girls for rallying in the second half.”
On Tuesday, Jan. 14, the Blossoms squeaked out a 36-33 victory over Medford.
Leading scorers for Blooming Prairie were Pauly with 12 points followed by Anna Kittelson and Addison Doocy with 10 each.
“This was a really good win for us,” said Coach Cory Hendrickson. “Medford is a solid team and beating them is a great accomplishment,” he added.
Hendrickson complimented the work of Pauly and Doocy, who had great inside games. He also was impressed with Kittelson’s efforts in shooting the ball well from the outside.
Waterville-Elysian-Morristown easily defeated the Blossoms 36-16 on Jan. 10.
Pauly led the Blossoms with seven points.
“WEM played fantastic defense and made it incredibly difficult for us to score,” Hendrickson said. “We weren’t aggressive enough and just couldn’t get anything going,” he added.
On Jan. 7, the Blossoms came out on top 44-29 over Southland. Pauly scored 17 points while Lembke added seven points.
“This was a great team win for us,” Hendrickson commented. “We moved the ball well and our defense solid for most of the game. Everyone got a chance to play and that is always a success in my mind.”
