Blossom girls finish with impressive 21-6 record
What a season it was for Coach John Bruns’ Blooming Prairie High School girls basketball team.
The Blossom girls finished one game away from making the Class A State Girls basketball Tournament, losing to Fillmore Central, 69-56 in the Section 1A championship game.
The Blossoms finished 21-6 overall and 10-4 in the Gopher Conference for a third-place finish.
The Blossoms will have all players returning next year except seniors Baylee Sorensen, Julie Worke, Maya Lembke and Marti Snider.
Returning next year will be Megan Oswald, Bobbie Bruns, Maggie Bruns, Maren Forystek, Allison Krohnberg, Anna Kittel- son, Emily Miller, Micalyn Trihus, Melanie Winzen- burg and Anna Pauly.
Coach Bruns said the Blossoms’ biggest wins of the season were over Med- ford, Triton, Kingsland, Southland, Hayfield (3) and Maple River (2).
Losses came at the hands of Goodhue, Water- ville Elysian Morristown (WEM), NRHEG, Medford and Fillmore Central.
The Blossom girls were ranked in the Top 10 Class A teams for most of the season. Blooming Prairie finished ninth in the final poll.
The Blossoms were a powerful defensive team, giving up only 40.4 points per game, 10th best in Class A girls basketball.
This year’s participation in the Section 1A championship game marked the third time in the school’s history and the first time since 2005.
