Back in the win column for BP girls
After suffering its first loss of the season before Christmas, the Blooming Prairie girls basketball team got back on the winning side of things by cruising to two victories over the past week.
On Jan. 2, the Blossom girls killed Chatfield 57-30, though they got off to a slow start in the game. Blooming Prairie actually trailed by one point 15-16 with eight minutes left in the first half.
The Blossoms made a few adjustments and finished the half on a 15-2 run to take control of the game and lead 30-18 at halftime.
The second half was more of the same as the Blossoms outscored Chatfield 27-12 to finish with a 57-30 victory.
Three Blossom players finished scoring in double figures, including Bobbie Bruns with 20, Julia Worke with 15 and Allison Krohnberg with 10. Coach John Bruns noted Megan Oswald was held to six points as Chatfield focused its defensive attack on her. However, Oswald managed to gather 12 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 assists.
Blossoms sneak past Triton
The next night the Blossoms put together yet another great road win by defeating Triton 66-58.
Coach Bruns said Triton was a “very solid opponent” for his team. “We were able to get out early in the game and gain the lead behind some hot shooting and excellent offensive rebounding,” Bruns said.
Maren Forystek provided a spark with eight points in a three-minute stretch where she converted on a nice backdoor and two 3-pointers. Bobbie Bruns also scored 10 points in the first half.
After leading 36-22 at halftime, the Blossoms were able to stretch the lead to 17 before Triton came storming back behind Kendra Petersohn and Brylee Iverson. Triton was able to chip away at BP’s lead and cut it to four points several times. “But we were able to answer their runs and made some big free throws down the stretch,” Coach Bruns pointed out. He noted Bobbie Bruns and Oswald each went 4-for-4 from the line in the last two minutes of the game.
The victories improve the Blossoms’ overall record to 8-1 and they remain unbeaten at 4-0 in the Gopher Conference.
This week the Blossoms will take on Lyle Pacelli at home and Friday they travel to Waterville-Elysian.
