Another win keeps Blossom boys unbeaten
The Awesome Blossoms are on fire as they piled on their fifth consecutive victory by pounding Chatfield 64-34 in boys basketball action on Jan. 2 in Blooming Prairie.
BP had an impressive first half as it outscored Chatfield 40-12. Coach Nate Pillar credited his team’s defense and rebounding for the explosive first half.
The second half of the game was an entirely different story as the Blossoms cooled off and only outscored Chatfield by two points, 24-22. Pillar wasn’t particularly pleased with his team’s overall performance in the second half.
“We really lacked intensity and didn’t take care of the ball very well,” Pillar said of the second half. He also said his players didn’t rebound nearly as well and failed to move their feet.
The Blossoms were also haunted with eight team fouls in the second half before they tried shuffling their feet to defend.
Pillar praised the performances of Zach Archer, Zach Weber, Isaac Ille and Karson Vigeland. Pillar said Archer played “very well” in the game, especially during the first half. He added that Weber also played excellent and had a great first half.
The coach said Ille had a very solid game with some nice passing. Pillar says Archer, Weber and Ille have developed as “2-way” players.
Pillar said Vigeland had another steady performance while Gabe Hagen and Kaden Thomas paced BP’s offense with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
“We didn’t shoot very well from the 3 and it should come as no surprise that we were again only 50% from the free throw line,” Pillar said.
The victory moves the Blossoms to 5-0 on the season, including an unbeaten 3-0 record in the Gopher Conference.
Blooming Prairie has three games in the upcoming week. On Thursday, the Blossoms travel to Grand Meadow. BP hosts Waterville-Elysian Friday night before hitting the road again to Medford next Tuesday. All games are at 7:15 p.m.
