Here's a closeup of the special flag unveiled in memory of longtime Blooming Prairie Cancer Group promoter Philip Milton. "No one fights alone" is the message on the flag. Milton died of cancer on July 15, 2018.

Surprise revealed for this year’s BP Paint the Town Pink

2018 cancer auction dedicated to Philip Milton

There was something different about painting Blooming Prairie pink with 250 flags this year.

The something different on Sunday afternoon was the absence of Philip Milton, a member of the Blooming Prairie Cancer Group for many years. Milton died of cancer on July 15.

Milton was always there, even when fighting the dreaded disease at its toughest.

Jennifer was there to paint BP pink on Sunday and about half way through the posting of the flags, Cheri Krejci, BP Cancer Group treasurer, called all volunteers over to the sign at the Field of Flags, near Main Street and Highway 218.

Krejci had a surprise for Philip's wife Jennifer. She unveiled a colorful pink flag carrying the banner "Team Philip." The message was this: "No one fights alone!" A pair of boxing gloves and the cancer logo adorned the flag.

The flag, posted in Philip's memory, will be up until Sept. 10.

Volunteers included members of the BP Cancer Group, Blooming Prairie High School cheerleaders, Blossom football players and just plain volunteers.

As volunteers placed re-rod into the field, cars passed by and honked their approval of the cancer mission.

In about two hours time, all 250 flags were placed.

The 18th annual Blooming Prairie Cancer Auction is planned for two big nights, Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8. The auction will be held under the Big Tent outside the Cue Company on Main Street.
