Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2
It’s time to save yourself a seat at the theater for Guardians of the Galaxy. Again.
Everyone’s favorite sometimes superheroes are back in an even edgier volume two. This time around the guardians are saving the galaxy from a monstrous conquer, while also confronting fears closer to home and their hearts.
The humor that made the first volume a success is back. The wisecracks and irreverent tone that’s become the guardians’ calling card is especially necessary in this outing, because the stakes are a lot higher and, well, creepier.
While the overall tone of the film is still space adventure, it does occasionally swerve into horror territory. That uneasiness the marks so many sci-fi films is present here as well. It surprisingly doesn’t jar with the lighter moments. It grounds the film with a real sense of fear for the characters. In the first film, audiences knew the guardians would rise victorious and largely unscathed. It was just that kind of movie. As the bodies start to pile up, you realize this might not be that kind of movie.
A word of warning to parents, while the movie has the same PG-13 rating as the first. This is a much harder PG-13. There’s no dismembered bodies popping out, but there’s several moments that will either disturb kids or lead them to ask awkward questions about what that man is doing with that lady robot.
If you’re ready for a superhero movie that takes you to the edge of your seat, buckle up. It’s one of the better blockbusters this side of the galaxy.
