Trip prevents disaster
An expected trip to Wisconsin saved the Hefling family since their home was completely destroyed by the June 17 tornado.

'There's no reason I should be alive'
Judith Kollar recalls the night a tornado tossed her around her home giving her a severe concussion, internal injuries and a broken arm. Kollar says that she doesn't know how she survived in all the wreckage except for the brave Blooming Prairie police officers that rescued her. Kollar is left with nothing as everything was destroyed in the tornado. She's staying at a temporary apartment in town.

Disaster aid approved for damaged areas
On July 2, Gov. Tim Pawlenty announced that federal relief and recovery assistance will be heading to parts of southern Minnesota that were affected by the tornadoes after President Obama approved a major disaster declaration for Minnesota. This will clear the way for federal help.
