Seize the Summer Day (Carpe Diem!)
It’s finally summer!
These next couple months are a great time to relax and enjoy the great weather.
Once you’re relaxed, it’s important to remember that fun summer adventures are available. All you have to do is look for them.
My advice is, don’t wait until August to start your summer adventure
The great thing about southern Minnesota is that you don’t have to travel far to find interesting places and events.
Kasson Aquatic Center offers fun for kids of all ages as well as relief from the heat. Talk about a win-win!
Every Friday morning through July, the Kasson Public Library offers a different activity for young kids.
If you’re willing to travel to Rochester, Thursdays on First gives you lots of interesting vendors and food in downtown. It’s open every Thursday, barring bad weather.
Mantorville’s Stagecoach Days showcases local musical talent from June 24-25.
If you’re willing to travel farther, Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store is 90 minutes away in Jordan, Minn. It’s open every day of the week; just remember to bring cash, as they don’t take credit cards.
Looking for a place to camp, fish, or kayak? Try Rice Lake State Park, only 25 minutes away, near Owatonna.
If your kids are cooped up indoors, Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, Stewartville, offers the camp experience for children of all ages. Go to www.ironwoodsprings.com/upcomingevents for more information.
If it’s too hot to be outside, spend your spare time at one of the nearby bowling lanes: Byron Lanes or Hayfield Bowling Lanes.
The Dodge County Fair has all sorts of activities and animals, great food, and it’s free! It’s scheduled for July 19-23.
Also, be sure to check out Survival Days in West Concord, July 21-23.
As you can see, southern Minnesota has plenty of interesting place and events that will keep you entertained this summer. All you have to do is seize the day!
