Breaking News: Fire destroys Dodge Center home

An Easter fire has destroyed a home in Dodge Center.

Firefighters battled a blaze Sunday night at the Valley View Trailer Court in Dodge Center. The mobile home belonging to Jackie and Debra Odell was destroyed, Sheriff Scott Rose said.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, flames were observed coming out of the west side windows and door of the home. The Odells were standing outside. Rose said Jackie, who uses an oxygen tank, was struggling to breath. He was immediately switched to the deputy’s oxygen tank. He was transported by Dodge Center Ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

The fire also damaged two neighboring trailers with mostly siding damage, according to Rose. The State Fire Marshall is investigating. However, Rose said, preliminary investigation points to a cigarette as the cause of the fire.
